Emergency Water Extraction and Water Removal

Call (352) 678-7470

Standing water can spread into carpet pad, subfloor, baseboards, drywall and other building materials. Removing accessible standing water promptly and identifying where moisture has traveled are important first steps in limiting additional damage and beginning the drying process.

We answer water-damage calls 24/7. Once on site, we assess the source and conditions of the loss, address accessible standing water and begin the appropriate extraction process.

For emergency water damage, we typically arrive within 60–90 minutes in our primary service area of Hernando and Pasco counties around Spring Hill, with arrival times varying based on location, traffic, time of day and crew availability. Outside Hernando and Pasco counties, we give you an estimated arrival time when you call.

How we remove the water

  1. Safety and assessment first. We check for electrical hazards and assess the source and conditions of the water loss and its contamination category, because that affects the procedures and protective equipment we use:

    • Category 1: clean-source water
    • Category 2: water with significant contamination
    • Category 3: grossly contaminated water, including sewage, toilet overflows containing waste and outside flood water

The category depends on the source and conditions of the loss, not simply on how long the water has been present.

  2. Extract standing water with truck-mounted extraction for large volumes and portable extractors for tight spaces and upper floors.

  3. Pull water out of carpet and pad. Where appropriate, weighted extraction tools press water out of carpet and pad. When carpet, pad or other porous materials are affected by contaminated water, we evaluate them according to the conditions of the loss and applicable restoration procedures. Materials that cannot be safely cleaned and restored are removed.

  4. Check where moisture has traveled. Thermal imaging can help identify areas that may need closer moisture inspection, while pin and pinless moisture meters are used to confirm affected materials.

  5. Set up drying the same day. Extraction is only the first step. Structural drying addresses moisture that remains in affected building materials after standing water has been removed.

Equipment matched to the job

  • Removing water. Submersible pumps remove standing water, truck-mounted extraction equipment handles large volumes, and portable extractors reach upper floors and tight spaces. Weighted carpet extraction tools press water out of carpet and pad.
  • Inspecting moisture. Moisture inspection helps determine where extraction and drying efforts need to be focused.
  • Moving into drying. After extraction, commercial drying equipment is selected, monitored and documented based on the conditions of the loss.

We set up the equipment each job needs based on what we find.

Why a shop vac is not enough

A household wet/dry vacuum can remove some visible water, but it does not tell you how far moisture has traveled into carpet pad, walls, flooring or other materials. Professional extraction combines higher-capacity water removal with moisture inspection so the drying plan is based on what is actually affected.

After a storm or flood

Outside flood water is treated as Category 3 because it may contain sewage, chemicals, microorganisms and other contaminants. These losses require contaminated-water procedures and appropriate safety precautions. Affected porous materials that cannot be safely cleaned and restored are removed as appropriate to the loss and applicable restoration procedures before drying and cleaning continue.
